Forest for the Trees: Lost in Vesuvius Wilderness

Dense forest interior with twisted tree branches and thick green undergrowth, multiple tree trunks visible through layered vegetation in Vesuvius National Park, Italy

Deep in the verdant chaos of Vesuvius National Park, where every direction looks suspiciously identical and my sense of direction went to die. The iPhone SE managed to capture this dense undergrowth maze surprisingly well - all twisted branches and emerald layers creating nature's own green labyrinth. Standing here among the Mediterranean forest tangle, I'm starting to appreciate why ancient Romans thought this place was mystical. Or maybe that's just the mild panic of realizing I have no clue which way leads back to civilization.
